This update to Ableton’s entry level offering adds new and updated devices, a larger sound library, more scenes and MPE support.

MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) which was popularised by the ROLI range of gear, is now integrated into Ableton 11 Lite. People with these controllers can slide, bend and express their sounds in more interesting ways. Users without these controllers can still use Ableton’s automation tool to edit these parameters.

Live 11 Lite receives a few new audio effects taken from the full edition of Ableton with Phaser-Flanger, Limiter and Saturator. These are welcome additions with the Saturator coming in handy for adding some grit, the Limiter being useful for staying below digital zero and the Phaser-Flanger is fantastic at creating stereo width in your productions.

Arrangement view now allows up to 16 scenes for in depth and varied compositions and adds tempo following, which listens to incoming audio and matches the BPM of your session to it.

Racks, Ableton’s group of effects/instruments receives 1-16 macros instead of last editions 8 and macro settings can be randomised for interesting outcomes.

Live 11 Lite’s Core Library has been updated offering new sounds, Follow Actions get an update along with a few devices that were already available including Redux and Chorus-Ensemble.

Ableton Live 11 Lite is available now for all previous users of Lite and is included in a range of hardware available for purchase.
